Having something to smile about....

Wow..So today was simply amazing.  It was a day of service for all of the small groups through Campus Ministries and we all went down town G-Rap to do some local mission work.  We started off with some free breakfast which is always a plus for us college students.  Then nine of us headed for a house in the "rough" part of town.  We worked with an organization called Community Rebuilders.  And the house they had us paint, was a house they were letting people who just got out of prison use for a week or two until they eventually find a more permenant place to live.  Well, this house was...disgusting.  We walked in and it smelled horrible.  The walls were a nasty shade of tan, mysterious stains were spread out over the carpets and the kitchen was horrible.  Windows were broke from people feeling the need to throw rocks, and half of a cupboard was burnt, due to a house fire that the previous tenant slept through.

So we get assigned a bedroom and started our days work.  It took us 3 hours to paint a small bedroom, but after two paint fights, three painted over spiders, unknown painted hair on the wall, and a paint roller called Tiny Tim, the room turned into a masterpiece.  The whole house did actually.  What a world of difference nine people make along with a few gallons of white paint.

And even though some parts were truly disgusting, I instantly knew that I wanted to do this for the rest of my life.  I strongly beleive I am getting into the right career field.  I want to help so many people in so many ways, and I realize I can start now.  Just going downtown brought back memories of LA, my future home.  After graduation (IF it is God's will) I plan on moving to LA for a year or two and doing mission work where ever I am needed.  Going downtown today was well needed.  Not only did I re-confirm my carreer choice, but I have decided that I want to live downtown next year.  And if it is in God's plan for me, then I know money will not be an issue, as I am thinking it is now.  My dad said that if thats what I want to do, then go for it.  And it really is what I want to do!

This weekend was well needed.  Yesterday after doing a few hours of homework and a trip to Meijer, I visited with some very very close friends of mine. We got on the topic of relationships and dating.  And society seems to rush things for us women.  Graduate high school, go to college, get a degree, get married, have kids.  Sure, it is common to want all of this, which I very much do.  But what about the inbetween stuff?? God has so many BIG plans for me and I need to trust Him.  I am not going to be able to have a serious relationship, and do mission work all over the world after graduation.  No man is going to want to wait for that long.  So, Here it is....I am leaving this to God.  He knows the true desires of my heart more than I do.  I am completely content being single.  I'd much rather have a movie night with some of my closest friends, then go on an awkward date to some resteraunt that I don't even like.   This past week was to put it simply...Blah.  And sadly to say, it was because (or so I thought) that I didn't have a boyfriend.  A boyfriend!! Can you beleive it??  I felt an empty space in my heart and I was filling my head with none sense.  The empty feeling will certainly not be replaced by some boy, but Jesus Christ himself.

I love life! I love my friends! I love my family!  And more than anything else, I love Our savior, Jesus Christ!

A month of summer has already flown by in a blink of an eye!  Wow.  Where to start...well...I started back at good ol Country Fresh.  It is not so bad actually.  I love the people I work with.  Especially this girl, Kyeshia.  I can really communicate with her and she tells me a lot as well.  She has become a true follower in the Lord recently, and she talks about Him with me all the time.  It is truly great.  And the work and getting up early isn't all that bad either!  Alicia and I have been hanging out a  lot!! Which is great.  She told me the other day that next summer she might stay in Missouri for an intern.  What a bummer!  Speaking of another bummer, I just found out today that my Uncle Paul has an incurable kind of bone cancer.  The doctors do not know how long he will live and if he can be put into remission.  It is so sad to think that this husband, father, and grandfather is slowly going to die a painful death.  But at the end of this horrible tunnel, there is light.  It is possible for him to live for another 15 years with remission.  I ask anyone who reads this to keep my Unlce in your prayers.

Loud noises at Midnight=No good!

Ok..So I am back...again....I have three more days of school and then I will officially be a Sophomore in COLLEGE!!! Wow...time has sure passed by!  I am very sad to be moving out of good ol Ott here at Grand Valley, but Excited at the ame time.  I love summer....everything about it!  one..Alicia will be home!! Good times..Always! Two..I will be making money at a job that, I like for some odd reason.  I mean do not get me wrong...it does suck getting up before God, but I think I can manage!! Three....I am going to be a camp counselor!!! I am so excited for that!! This will determine whether or not I will be one for a longer period of time next summer!! I think I will love it!!  Four...I have made soo many new and WONDERFUL friends here at college, that I will visit them this summer!! Whether to McBain or Kentwood.  I am very sad that I will not be living with Taylor next year, but she only lives 10 minutes away from here, so I am going to be making plans to hang out with her this summer!!  I also love summer for it's bonfires, family dinner around the picinic table, grilling chicken (Instead of Fresh Food), the smell of freshly cut grass, the wonderful sounds that crickets and birds make, bike riding, rollerblading, going to Lake Michigan of course, and reading continuously for fun!!!

I was asked the other day if I liked college more than high school.  And even though Alicia and I are 8 hours a part, I said Yes!!  High school was great, but college is soo much better!! I have made so many long-lasting relationships, and kept the old ones up to par as well!!  I never would have thought that Amy and I would make it a point to do lunch at least once a week here at GVSU!! It was truly great that we stayed so close, I don't know what I would have done without her!!  Another thing about my college experience, is that I have grown so much in my faith!! I love Jesus, and I feel that my relationship with Him has grown so much more stronger!! Especially after going on that mission trip to LA....wow....what an eye opener!  I may have many plans for my life.....but in the end God will always prevail!!!

Ok...side note...As i am sitting here writing this...I thought I just heard a gun shot coming from Robinson field!! I went out there....but it didn't look like anyone was out there....Ugh!! Now i am scared....I don't know of it was a fire cracker or a gun shot!!!!  That Virginia Tech shooting seems like it can hit anywhere...and it has def. made me more aware of my surroundings!!! What if it was a gun shot?? But i didn't hear any yelling!!!  Oh and just now a horn honked...and i jumoed about 10ft!!! my oh my!  I think it was just a fire cracker!

So anyways, next year I am going to be a bible study leader!!! I am so excited!! This summer I am hopefully going to start a bible study/ youth group at my church....b/c oddly enough my church back at home does not have one!!! So..I will keep anyone who reads this updated all summer!!!!

In Him,

Laura

So....Sweet Home Alabama needs not to be sung Disco style...if you know what I mean!!!

Haha...I loved it though!!

I actually found out that Karla Kantola is a fun person to hang out with!! I never hung out with her outside of school..she is quite the funny chica!!

So...Laura has a crush....yes....one of many...but I am excited...This guy is totally prom date material!!  He is totally cute, he smiles a lot, he laughs at my jokes...no..not at me...but with me!! He talks just as much as I do...and there was totally major flirtation going on Friday!! I would mention the name...but then it would no longer be a secret...and if ur that important I already told you....the only bad thing is, is that he has a grl friend....but he randomly said that he didn't think it was gonna go much farther...i bet he told me that because he now realizes that he is madly in love with me!! HA...right!!! Well hopefully someday soon we can hang out!! That would be off the heezey fo sheezey!!

Well thanx for taking the precious time out of ur busy, hectic life to read about my life!!!
